Caring under Hardship

For over 10 years, cat mom Barış from Bursa in Türkiye has been caring for stray cats while fighting cancer. Her name - Barış means Peace in Turkish - is befitting, as she has a peaceful demure despite her troubled life. Her kind heart enabled her to continue her work as an independent rescuer despite her illness. Throughout this time, Barış has supported the cats entirely on her own. However, as she is no longer able to work due to her advanced breast cancer, she is now seeking support from fellow cat lovers.

Specialized Treatments

Currently, she is caring for more than 12 sick cats, each requiring specialized treatment. Four of the cats are diagnosed with FIP, four have hearing problems and five require personalised meals to fit the needs of their age. Barış also prepares some of the food for the cats herself. Two times a week she cooks chicken, once a week she boils eggs for extra protein and sometimes she makes bone broth to help the elder cats maintain high collagen levels.  

Helping Others Heals the Heart

You might wonder how Barış manages it all. It’s certainly not an easy task, but for her, it's incredibly rewarding. Watching helpless, sick cats deeply affects her, but giving them the care they need brings her immense comfort and purpose.

It's often said that helping others can heal the heart, and Barış embodies this sentiment.
