The CatSwoppr community mourns the loss of the Leo, a native of Istanbul and an internationally beloved ginger tom. In the middle of the night of 15th January, Leo’s breathing stopped during the night and tragically he passed away.

CatSwoppr endeavoured to assist Kristina, who found Leo on the streets. After weeks of searching, Kristina found Istanbul Kedi Pansiyonu, a rescue centre in northern Istanbul. Their pages seemed trustworthy and while we do not provide official institution accreditations, this organisation seemed legitimate. However, after some time in their care, Leo passed away.
Leo is sadly another victim of animal mistreatment and lack of proper care. The mysterious circumstances of the death of a healthy, well-provided and (supposedly) medically sound cat shocks CatSwoppr, and we are deeply concerned about the quality of care at Istanbul Kedi Pansiyonu. We reached out to ask for further details, but worryingly they have not responded in the month since. We strongly encourage the Istanbul Kedi Pansiyonu to launch an investigation to further ascertain how this could happen under their watch.
CatSwoppr fully endorses the need for a thorough network of cat lovers to create, uphold and enforce the safety of cats in Istanbul and beyond. We encourage our readers and members of the cat community to properly investigate and research any organisation looking to adopt their cat, especially if they are asking for money to take care of their cats. Despite our best efforts, we were not able to save Leo, and the tragedy hangs heavy on our conscious. In spite of this, we remain undeterred and will continue to help cats and cat pawrents across the world.
Rest in peace Leo.
