Kiki – My Wise and Picky Life

Kiki 🐾

Hi feline friends! My name is Kiki, and I’m a strong and independent cat who managed to build her perfect life. I was living in a shelter in Rotterdam when my story took a turn for the better. Now, I’m living my golden years in Tilburg, The Netherlands, with my loving hooman. I don’t remember my exact age, but they say I could be 20 years old! Can you believe that? Even with no teeth, I’m living life to the fullest.

Adoption

I found my hooman back in 2015. A couple came to the shelter that day – the guy was eager to adopt a cat, but the girl wasn’t quite convinced. Of course, I wasn’t about to let that stop me! I stretched out in the middle of the shelter and caught their attention with my irresistible charm. They couldn’t say no, and just like that, I had a new home.

At first, I wasn’t in the best shape – I had no teeth and wasn’t feeling my best. But with time, care, and plenty of love, I found my place. Life had another twist, though. The couple eventually split up, and I stayed with my mom. She’s the one who spoils me now, so I’d say it all worked out pretty well in the end.

As a black cat, I occasionally become the center of misunderstandings when my pawrent talks to objects like black bags or jackets, assuming they’re me!

A Name That Stuck

Funny story about my name. When I was adopted, my hoomans gave me a new name, but I didn’t respond to it. Later, they found out I already had a name from my microchip – Kiki. The moment they called me by my name, I turned my head right away. Finally, they got it right! My mom says it reminds her of Kiki’s Delivery Service. I’m no broomstick rider but I still bring magic into her life.

Wise and Selective

I’d describe myself as sweet but selective. I know who I like and who I don’t. Loud people? No, thank you. I prefer quiet and calm humans. My mom says I’m clever because I can sense visitors before they even enter. Some, I greet with a friendly nuzzle. Others, I avoid altogether. It’s all about the vibe!

My Daily Rituals

I’m not much of a player these days – I prefer the simple life. My favorite daily activity is sleeping, and my go-to spots include cozy laps, radiators, or a sunny spot in the garden. Oh, and speaking of the garden, I love drinking water from the outdoors. It’s dirtier, sure, but it feels more adventurous.

When it comes to food, I’m a picky eater. Wet food is my jam, but I won’t eat the same flavor three times in a row. My mom sometimes tries to sneak in the “healthy stuff,” but I’m too smart for that – I just pick out the bits I like and leave the rest for her to clean up.

Kiki’s Playful Quirks

I’m not the most active cat when it comes to playing, but I have my preferences! I adore string-like objects, like phone chargers or cards – especially if they’re being used. It’s fun to steal them and cause a bit of playful mischief. Oh, and don’t get me started on insects! I like to “play” with them in my own way, although I don’t really hunt.

Once, there was a mouse in our apartment in Rotterdam. My pawrent thought I’d be the brave hunter to catch it. Spoiler alert: I wasn’t. Instead, I joined my pawrent on the couch, both of us scared and watching the little critter. In the end, the mouse problem solved itself, but I do serve as a natural deterrent – my scent keeps mice away, so they never overstay their welcome. It’s a win-win for both of us.

Caring Moments

I may seem like a diva, but I know when my hooman needs me. When my mom had corona, I stayed by her side every day, lying on her belly and keeping her company. I’ve done the same for her friends when they weren’t feeling well. I’m good at sensing when someone needs comfort, and that’s when I like to snuggle close.

My Message to Cats and Hoomans

If you’re thinking of adopting a cat, don’t overlook the shelter cats, especially us older ones! We may not be kittens, but we have so much love to give. And don’t forget to give black or unique cats like me a chance. You won’t regret it. 🐾
