Life on the Street
Freddie, a nearly three-year-old former stray from Leeuwarden, a small city in the Netherlands, with a chronic cold, has a story that warms hearts. Rescued from a shelter by his loving pawrent, Femke, Freddie has come a long way from his days near a gas station, where he sought affection from passersby. Now, he enjoys the comforts of a loving home and the adoration of an entire neighborhood.
A New Home
When Femke and her family adopted Freddie, they originally intended for him to be a companion to their other cat, Nulle. The family had recently lost their eldest cat, Timon, to old age, leaving Nulle lonely. Unfortunately, Nulle and Freddie didn't hit it off, but Femke’s family saw Freddie’s golden heart and decided he deserved his chance.
Freddie found his forever home with Femke, who quickly became his favorite human. On his very first night, he settled in as though he had always belonged, snuggling up beside her and spending the whole night with her in bed (which is still his favourite spot to sleep).
From Neighbourhood Terror to Neighbourhood Sweetheart
The neighbourhood where Femke and Freddie live has a lot of other cats. Freddie only got neutered a few weeks before arriving there, so he still had a bit of a feisty streak.
Determined to climb the social hierarchy, he stirred up a fair share of mischief. The pawrent, Femke, often would get called, or spoken to about his misbehaviour, but a few weeks went by and it seemed his golden heart had also shone through to the neighbourhood. After those weeks, the children in the neighbourhood could be seen carrying him around or taking him for rides on swings. He became the “neighbourhood sweetheart,” adored by families who now know Femke simply as “Freddie’s owner.” His days of picking fights were behind him, replaced by playful antics and cuddles.
Stray Cat Habits Die Hard
Freddie certainly is not an indoorsy cat, he loves the outdoors and loves to walk with people who give him some attention. This had led to him walking far away from his neighbourhood and getting lost a few times. Because of this, he always needs to wear a harness and a tracker, so at least his pawrent can see where he has lost himself this week.
Freddie’s escapades have led to some amusing( and occasionally stressful, situations). He’s been caught napping in strangers’ beds, trapped in stores after closing hours, and even spotted strolling into shops or houses with open doors. His curious nature and knack for finding free food often lead neighbors to call Femke, thinking he’s hungry or homeless. But rest assured, Freddie has a home filled with love, plenty of food, and a pawrent who wouldn’t trade him for the world, even though she often has to clean his boogers.
Luxurious New Life
No expenses are spared for the feline, getting new toys every month, having a water fountain, an automatic feeder, a lot of his favourite snacks, and even doing a photoshoot. Femke truly loves her new feline companion, and he is totally in love with his new life. Freddie hopes he can enjoy much more snacks and snuggles with his favourite human!
